Job Summary:

Seeking a post doctoral Research Associate / Visiting Research Scholar. Applicants must hold a PH.D. in Animal Nutrition, Animal Physiology, or a related field. Strong background in ruminant nutrition, preferably inclusive of research with goats and sheep. Demonstrated capabilities in conducting and supervising animal nutrition experiments and associated laboratory analyses, data handling, statistical analyses, data interpretation , and preparation and presentation of scientific publications. Capacity to work cooperatively with others, including students participating in research. 

Scope of the Work: The long term goal of the project is to determine appropriate conditions for conduct of research with a portable calorimetry system used with groups of small ruminants (goats and hair sheep) in natural settings such as on pasture. Studies will include usage of a stationary, individual animal, indirect open-circuit respiration calorimetry system.

The person selected will be responsible for development of research protocols and conduct of trials, laboratory analyses , data handling, statistical analysis , data interpretation , preparation of abstract, and per review manuscripts. The individual work cooperatively with research and extension personnel of the American Institute for the Goat Research, staff of the Research Farm and Central Laboratory, personnel of the School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, and participating students. 

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Standard fringe benefits of LU are included in the package. The project does not cover cost of travel to the LU area or initial lodging until a residence is acquired.

Position Qualifications:

Qualifications and Experience: Applicants must hold a doctorate degree in Animal Nutrition, Animal Physiology, or a related field. Strong background in ruminant nutrition, preferably inclusive of research with goats and sheep. Demonstrated capabilities in conducting and supervising animal nutrition experiments and associated laboratory analyses, data handling, statistical analyses, data interpretation , and preparation and presentation of scientific publications. Capacity to work cooperatively with others, including students participating in research.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Dexterity in fingers and hands to perform complex and precise manipulations.
  • Frequently lifting/ carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25 pounds. 
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/ leg and hand/arm movements. 
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception and an ability to identify and distinguish colors and shades. 
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, ect with or without hearing correction.
  • Frequent keyboard use and data entry,
  • Occasionally bending , stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and lifting/carrying and pushing/ pulling objects that weigh 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
