In the future CDL may be required. Must have a clear understanding of the practical aspects of swine production. Must have the ability to lead and supervise student employees. Excellent inter-personal, communication and time management skills are necessary and ability to work with faculty, staff, technician, graduate students, and stakeholders. Must have a good understanding of animal welfare standards. Must have the ability to operate machinery such as: a tractor, a front-end loader, a pick-up truck, power washer, electrical ventilation equipment, and lab equipment at the boar stud. Computer knowledge, and operation is required for communication and record keeping. Computer skills are required including utilizing e-mail, spreadsheet, word processing and web-based programs for communication, maintaining projects project records and training. This job may require exposure to unpleasant conditions such as mud, waste material, noise, agricultural chemicals, and exposure to the outdoor weather. Ability to lift and carry 75-100 lbs. Ability to operate heavy equipment such as tractors, mowers, fork lift, shop equipment, pickup and trucks. Ability to readily climb ladders, excavate trenches, load feed, climb on and off equipment and other related physical tasks. Walking and standing for extended periods are necessary as well as repetitive bending and kneeling. Preferred: Master's in Animal Science 5 years experience in swine production Prefer experience with swine research protocols, data collection, and sample collection techniques. |
