Job Summary:

Headquartered in the OSU Agricultural Communications Services unit, this individual reports directly to the Ferguson College of Agriculture communications and marketing manager and is part of a team that works closely with the associate dean and leadership of the Ferguson College of Agriculture to develop and implement appropriate content across multiple communications platforms in order to highlight the college within the OSU community, as well as the state, region and country.

The Creative Communications Specialist will create and incorporate graphic design and layout elements for multimedia efforts on the web, social media, brochures, magazines, posters and related materials. Work with digital communications specialist to develop graphic content for digital platforms. Execute exceptional print and digital-based designs that are precise and creative. Maintain an eye for detail and deliver on deadline.

Shoot and edit promotional video for websites, emails and social media. Demonstrate self-direction, creativity and strategic thinking in developing college video content.

Write and edit copy for marketing materials, print and news. Writing assignments may include overall messaging for college recruitment, descriptions of majors and other college content, feature stories, event coverage, student and faculty achievement releases, and other stories as assigned.

Work with team to develop campaigns with respect to creative/graphic design elements, message and content creation, as well as overall audience strategy.

Assist communications and marketing manager in supervising student employees. Oversee creative projects for graduate assistants and undergraduate interns in regards to design, videography, photography and other creative tasks. Assign projects and review completed tasks to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Design and plan marketing photo shoots for the college. Serve as a photographer for college marketing photo shoots and provide photography support at college events as needed.

Work with digital communications specialist and assist in creating campaign content for multimedia efforts on the web and social media. Assist in monitoring social media channels.

Collaborate with others in the Agricultural Communications Services unit and Ferguson College of Agriculture to promote, publicize and otherwise generate positive visibility for the activities and programs of OSU Agriculture. Other duties as assigned.

OSU Agricultural Communications Services is a team of experienced professionals committed to elevating agricultural sciences and natural resources programs and services at OSU. We deliver all aspects of integrated communications and marketing: digital, web and social media, branding and campaigns, television shows and educational videos, news and feature stories, photography, graphic design and publications. Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's in Ag Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Strategic Communications, Mass Communications, or related field.  

One year experience in communications, including but not limited to graphic design, writing, video, print and electronic content creation, photography and/or related tasks/projects.  

Valid Drivers License  

Public relations, marketing and graphic design skills. Ability to develop and implement intriguing content across multiple media platforms relevant for a variety of audiences including students, faculty, alumni and the public. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom and Photoshop, as well as MS Office Suite. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in proofreading, editing and AP Style. Ability to work under deadline, both within a strategic communications team, as well as independently. Strong creative and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in the university setting.   

Preferred:

Master's in Ag Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Strategic Communications, Mass Communications, or related field.  

Three years experience in communications, including but not limited to graphic design, writing, video, print and electronic content creation and/or related tasks/projects.

Knowledge of agriculture.
