
Irrigation Engineer
Assistant Professor, Tenure-track Faculty Appointment
Nature of Position: This position is an 11-month,tenure-track appointment in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering (BAE), with Research (75%) and
Teaching (25%) responsibilities in irrigation systems and water management and
is expected to begin on or before June 30th, 2023.
The faculty member will be expected to develop and sustain a nationally recognized, externally funded, research program in irrigation design and technology development. Areas of research may include precision
irrigation, remote sensing, water balance of soil-crop systems, and integrated
water management that helps mitigate challenges in surface and groundwater
availability, water quality, and use of wastewater. Other areas of research
emphasis can include smart irrigation systems and systems analysis, simulation
and modeling to promote water use, sensor development and application, and
energy efficiency.
Close collaboration is also
expected with faculty in BAE and other departments in the Ferguson College of
Agriculture and the College of Engineering, Architecture & Technology, the Oklahoma Water Resources Center, OSU Extension, and other units of the University, as
well as regional, state, and federal organizations such as the Oklahoma
USDA-NRCS, USDA-ARS Grazinglands Research Laboratory, Oklahoma Water Resources
Board, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, and Oklahoma Conservation
Commission.
Teaching responsibilities include
graduate and undergraduate courses within the Biosystems Engineering (ABET
accredited) and the Agricultural Systems Technology degree curricula in the
areas of agricultural water management, irrigation and drainage, and precision irrigation. Updating and implementing innovative teaching methods/materials and advising and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students
are also expected.
Qualifications: Required: Earned
PhD degree in Biosystems Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Civil and
Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated ability to attract external funding, publish peer- reviewed
materials, and provide instruction to a wide variety of audiences. Candidates
must be proficient in English, possessing effective verbal, written, and
multimedia communication skills. Willingness
to travel and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on
interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred: Current, or the ability to obtain, Professional Engineering registration.
Conditions: Full-time, 11-month, tenure-track appointment at the
title of Assistant Professor. Salary
will be commensurate with qualifications. This position is contingent on the
availability of funding.
