About Us:
The mission of the Community Nutrition Education Programs (CNEP) is to educate and empower limited-resource families and youth to improve nutrition and physical activity behaviors.

CNEP encompasses the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed), known as the Oklahoma Nutrition Education (ONE) program in our state. Our nutrition lessons focus on diet quality, food safety, physical activity, food security and food resource management.

Our Nutrition Education Assistants (NEA's) provide research-based, hands-on learning experiences for families and youth at no cost.

The position is shared between Coal and Atoka Counties and is 100% funded using a combination of federal and grant dollars.

This position is responsible for recruiting and teaching individuals and/or groups of low-income adults and/or youth eligible to receive SNAP benefits. It provides community outreach to agencies and organizations in targeted areas to motivate participants to develop healthier eating habits for their families.

Requires travel within assigned county, district, and state. Occasional overnight travel. Travel budget provided.

Continuation of employment is based upon need, performance, and available funding.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

Required:

High School/GED with 1 year of work experience.

Valid driver's license and access to vehicle with current liability insurance.  

Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.  

Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently. Ability to respond positively to supervision. Ability to read, write, and speak the appropriate language of program participants and facilitate educational sessions. Ability to meet deadlines and complete required program reports. Ability to analyze the conditions and needs of participants and make recommendations. Ability to relate to audience in order to convey key educational messages. Excellent people skills.  

Preferred: 

Previous successful work experience. Interest in learning and then teaching nutrition and physical activity related information. Prior teaching experiences (formal or informal). Experience working with computers/internet based programs. Ability to conduct educational sessions in Spanish (if applicable).

Federal Vaccine Mandate
While a federal contractor vaccination mandate was instituted in 2021, the federal government is currently not enforcing that mandate and its associated guidance.
