The Department of Agricultural Economics at Oklahoma State University (OSU) invites applications for a full-time, eleven-month, tenure-track 75% Extension and 25% research position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics with an emphasis on Agricultural Policy.
Government policies continue to play an important role in the allocation of resources in the agricultural and food sectors. Targeted extension educational programs serve a key role as farmers and ranchers deal with the complex decisions related to policy, risk management, and decision making. Research programs are needed to develop and analyze federal, state, and local policy alternatives, and determine the potential implications of these policies on farmers, agribusiness firms, local and regional economies, the environment, consumers, and taxpayers.
This faculty member will be expected to develop a nationally recognized extension and research program in agricultural policy, with a concentration on general farm commodity policy. Additional areas that could be pursued include food policy, energy policy, rural economic development, trade, labor and immigration, transportation, livestock and waste management policy, land use, and conservation policy. Programs may include:
*Conduct an extension and applied research program to disseminate policy information to the public
*Participate in multidisciplinary extension/research programs on policy issues related to plant and animal agriculture, including Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (DASNR) team initiatives
*Support ongoing efforts to assist state and federal legislators in the deliberations and analysis of specific agricultural and food policy issues
*Serve as research advisor to M.S. and Ph.D. students
*Cultivate external support from private and governmental sources
*Publish in various outlets, including recognized peer-review journals and related outlets for professional peers
