Job Summary:

 The Southeast District Extension Office is inviting applicants for the Program Specialist, Family and Consumer Sciences. This person is responsible for providing educational leadership for all Family and Consumer Sciences programming in the district, including development, implementation, and evaluation of programs. 

Duties include: *Serve as a team member of district professionals under the supervision and guidance of the District Extension Director. Work closely with the Assistant Director for Family and Consumer Sciences who is responsible for programmatic leadership and coordination of Family and Consumer Science programs. *Provide staff development in organizational development and management, needs assessment, and program development in Family and Consumer Sciences. This position also provides orientation for new Extension Educators. *Function as a liaison between field and state staff to promote effective interaction. *Seek and develop new program ideas and inspire others to more effective, creative performance. *Increase awareness of family and consumer sciences by maintaining contacts with professional organizations and family service agencies and organizations. *Identify appropriate educational delivery methods and resources for meeting the needs of clientele in urban, rural, and culturally diverse communities. *Lead and collaborate with county, district, and state staff in the procurement of grant projects that contribute to individual and coordinated county extension programs. 
Monitor FCS grants and special projects in the District. *Assume other duties as necessary due to vacancies or for other reasons as assigned by the District Extension Director.  

*This is an exempt position (which indicates that the position is exempt from overtime pay/comp time). According to OSU policy, a 40 hour workweek is considered minimal for exempt staff and you are expected to work hours in excess when the when the work load requires additional hours (to include some early mornings, evenings and/or weekends). 
*Requires travel within assigned district. Occasional overnight travel is required. Travel budget provided. 
*The incumbent is administratively accountable to the district extension director. The incumbent is also accountable to the assistant director for family and consumer sciences for programs conducted within the district. 
*Must establish and maintain residence in the Southeast District.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:


Master's with at least one degree in Family and Consumer Sciences  

*Five or more years of successful professional work experience with a minimum of three years of Cooperative Extension work. 
*Proven leadership and program development experience. 
*Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to relate effectively with county staff and lay leaders. 
*Demonstrated organizational development and management skills; knowledge of and the ability to utilize electronic communications and computer technology skills for communication and program management. 
*Willingness to work within a flexible time frame which may include evenings and weekends and be willing to travel throughout the district, state, and occasionally out of state. 
*The person selected for this position is expected to establish and maintain residence in the southeast district.  

Valid driver's license and access to vehicle with current liability insurance.

*Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
*Ability to respond positively to supervision. 
*Ability to read, write, and speak the appropriate language of program participants and effectively facilitate educational sessions. 
*Ability to complete required program reports. 
*Ability to analyze the conditions and needs of participants and make recommendations. 
*Ability to relate to target audience in order to convey key educational messages. 
*Ability to effectively manage time, resources, personnel, and adapt well to changing priorities, situations and day to day demands. 
*Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to relate effectively with county staff and community leaders outside of the organization.
