Job Summary:

GENERAL SUMMARY:  Oversee the strategic branding, marketing, market research and internal and external communications for the university. Provide comprehensive, integrated strategic marketing and communications planning and implementation in support of university goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clearly communicates and improves the name and brand recognition of OSU Institute of Technology among targeted audiences including prospective students, parents, industry, community leaders, alumni and other constituents.
  • Performs necessary duties as campus Public Information Officer (PIO).
  • Provides leadership, supervision, mentoring and opportunities for professional development for a specialized staff in the areas of media relations, graphic design, photographic services, content development, digital strategy and social media.
  • Increases and optimizes the pool of qualified inquiries and applicants for admission to the university through promotion and communication strategies.
  • Bolsters the local and regional reputation of OSUIT as an accredited, advanced technological institution of higher education.
  • Responsible for developing and executing marketing and communication plans for the various university divisions, working in conjunction with academic division leaders to ensure all programs have the necessary marketing materials and press outreach to succeed.
  • Initiate, develop, implement, evaluate and continually improve upon strategies to improve and enhance internal communications within the University.
  • Determine initiatives to enhance community development and relations.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications or a related discipline from an accredited college or university required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
  • Two to three years proven experience in higher education marketing and communications.
  • Experience in university and departmental strategic planning and fundraising campaign support (communications and materials development).
  • Demonstrated expertise in the formulation of institutional brand strategy, media and community relations, institutional research, analysis of market intelligence, collateral development, publications management, advertising and art direction.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and backgrounds, training in diversity work, and experience in recruiting and working with under-represented populations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, combined with a strong background in supervision, leadership, and execution of organizational initiatives.
  • Must be able to effectively lead and contribute in a dynamic, team environment.
  • A positive "can-do" attitude along with a professional appearance and demeanor should be modeled at all times.
  • Must have a willingness to continually self-initiate learning to remain current in expertise.
  • Must be service oriented with ability to work and respond effectively to diverse audiences of internal and external clients, exhibiting high production standards.
  • Ability to perform extensive research, analysis and synthesis, determine applicability and then share and resulting recommendations for implementation.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, recommend and implement solutions in a timely fashion.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills as well as a demonstrated ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to develop and deliver oral presentations and written materials for a variety of audiences and multiple venues.
  • Must be flexible, innovative and self-motivated.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires a strong background in leadership, and execution of organizational initiatives.

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively recognize and resolve conflict.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Travel may be required.
